The Narendra Modi government at the Center has not yet said anything officially on the fitment factor. However, experts and employee organizations have made their own estimates. Some experts are saying that the fitment factor in the Eighth Pay Commission may remain around 2.10, while the employees and their organizations are demanding it to be 3.83.

What is fitment factor?

eighth pay commission Since the announcement, fitment factor has been mentioned everywhere. If we understand it in very simple language, then it is a coefficient by which the new basic salary is determined by multiplying the existing basic salary. For example, you can understand it like this: Suppose the basic salary of an employee is Rs 18,000 and the fitment factor is fixed at 2.10, then the new basic salary will be Rs 37,800. At the same time, if the government sets the fitment factor at 3.83, then this basic salary will directly reach Rs 68,940.

Salary as per pay matrix

fitment factor Along with the change in salary, there is also a difference in salary at different pay matrix levels. Suppose a Level-6 employee, whose basic salary is Rs 35,400, his new basic salary will be around Rs 74,340 at 2.10 fitment factor. Whereas, if the fitment factor is fixed at 3.83 then the salary will reach around Rs 1.35 lakh. The basic salary of Level-10 officers can increase from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1.17 lakh as per 2.10 and to more than 2.14 lakh as per 3.83. The current basic salary of the highest level 18 officers is Rs 2.50 lakh, which will become Rs 5.25 lakh if 2.10 fitment factor is implemented and Rs 9.57 lakh if 3.83 is implemented.
