8th Pay Commission: What will be the new salary of Group-C employees?

New Delhi. Group-C category jobs are the largest in number in various departments of the Central Government. Candidates with 10th and 12th pass, diploma and other qualifications work in them. Many important posts like Clerk, LDC, UDC, Data Entry Operator, Stenographer, Junior Engineer, Assistant, Field Staff come under this category. Now the discussions regarding the 8th Pay Commission are intense, in such a situation the biggest question in the minds of the employees is how much will the new salary increase.

Current salary status of Group-C employees

At present, under the 7th Pay Commission, the basic salary of Group-C employees is fixed at different pay levels. The minimum basic salary for entry posts is around Rs 18,000. For posts like LDC, Clerk it is between Rs 19,900 to Rs 21,700. Whereas the basic salary for UDC, Head Constable and Technical posts ranges from Rs 25,500 to Rs 29,200. Apart from this, employees also get allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance (TA), which increases the total salary significantly.

What are the expectations from the 8th Pay Commission?

Regarding the 8th Pay Commission, it is believed that it can be implemented from January 1, 2026. Although the final salary chart has not been released by the government yet, there is a possibility of a good increase in the salary on the basis of fitment factor. It is estimated that the fitment factor may range between 1.92 to 2.86.

Possible new salary as per pay level

According to estimates, the basic salary at different pay levels of Group C may increase as follows:

Level-1 (MTS, Peon): Around ₹33,000 to ₹44,000

Level-2 (LDC): Around ₹36,000 to ₹49,000

Level-3 (Clerk, Constable): Around ₹39,000 to ₹53,000

Level-4 (UDC, Head Constable): Around ₹46,000 to ₹63,000

Level-5 (Auditor, ASI): Around ₹53,000 to ₹72,000

These figures are purely approximate and the final decision will be taken only after the report of the commission and the approval of the government.

Allowances will also increase

Increase in basic salary has a direct impact on allowances also. DA, HRA and transport allowance are calculated on the basis of basic salary, hence an increase of 20 to 35 percent in the total gross salary and pension is considered possible.

What is the current situation?

As of December 2025, the government has approved the constitution of the 8th Pay Commission and its conditions. The commission has been given about one and a half years to submit its report. In such a situation, the employees will have to wait for the official announcement.
