8th Pay Commission: What will be the new salary of Junior Engineer?
New Delhi. There is likely to be a major change in the salaries of central government employees after the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, and this also includes Junior Engineers (JEs). Presently Junior Engineers fall under pay-level 6 and their basic salary starts from ₹35,400. Under the 8th Pay Commission, their salary is likely to increase by 30% to 35%.
Possible new salary (8th Pay Commission)
Basic Pay: From ₹35,400 to around ₹80,000 to ₹1,00,000.
In-hand salary: From ₹55,000–₹65,000 to around ₹75,000–₹95,000+
The impact of this change will directly depend on the fitment factor, dearness allowance and other allowances.
Main reasons for salary increase
Fitment Factor:
The fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission is likely to be between 1.92 to 2.86. Higher the fitment factor, higher will be the increase in basic pay.
Dearness Allowance (DA):
As soon as the new pay commission is implemented, the current dearness allowance will be included in the basic salary, which will increase the total salary.
Other Allowances:
House Rent Allowance (HRA), Traveling Allowance (TA) and other allowances will increase as per the revised basic pay, which will further increase the in-hand salary.
Likely to be implemented
An official announcement from the government is yet to be made, but according to reports, the 8th Pay Commission is likely to be effective from January 1, 2026. This means that junior engineers and other central employees can start getting new salaries and allowances from January 2026 itself.
