Latest News :- The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a double-decker railway and highway bridge over river Ganga in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh at a cost of Rs 2,642 crore. 4 railway tracks will be built in the lower layer and 6 lane highway will be built in the upper layer. Yesterday the Union Cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Modi. Many projects have been approved. The meeting approved construction of a Rs 2,642-crore double-deck railway and highway bridge over the Ganga through Varanasi and Santhali districts in Uttar Pradesh. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said.

4 railway tracks will be laid on the lower deck of this bridge built on river Ganga in Varanasi. A 6-lane highway will be built on the upper layer. This bridge, to be built at a cost of Rs 2,642 crore under the Prime Minister's Kathi Shakti National Scheme, will be one of the largest bridges in the world. The Malviya Bridge here is 137 years old. It has been decided to build a new bridge. This double decker bridge will reduce traffic congestion in Varanasi. Devotees from many parts of the country come to Varanasi Railway Station. Being a tourist destination, it is also an important area for the Railways. Apart from this, coal, cement and food grains are transported through Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Railway Station Junction in Varanasi.

There is a need to improve the infrastructure here to meet the demand of tourism and industry. This bridge will bring socio-economic development in the area. With the construction of this bridge, it is expected to carry 2.78 crore tonnes of goods per year. This integrated connectivity project will result in seamless passenger and freight traffic. Since railway transport is environment friendly, the project will also help in meeting climate change targets, reduce transportation costs and reduce carbon emissions by 149 crore kg. This is equivalent to planting 6 crore trees. Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said this.
