In such a situation, according to government data, in the first three months of this year alone, Indians have suffered a loss of up to Rs 120 crore through digital arrest scams.
In this regard, Cyber Crime Coordination Organization (I4C) Chief Executive Rajesh Kumar said: Last year 2023, 15 lakh complaints were received from the public regarding various online scams. In such a situation, 7.4 lakh complaints were received in the first four months from January 1 to April 30 this year alone. In 2022 this figure was 9.60 lakh. The thing to note is that this is 4.5 lakh more than the number of complaints filed in 2021.
In the first quarter of this year, Indians were defrauded of Rs 120.3 crore by threatening them with digital arrest. Similarly, embezzlement of Rs 1,420.48 crore has been done in the name of e-commerce. Additionally, Indians have seized Rs 222.58 crore through investment fraud and Rs 13.23 crore through romance fraud. The investigation found that 46 percent of the people involved in this fraud showed their handwriting to be from countries like Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. Rajesh Kumar said this.
