There is a government here which is not ready to compromise even on an inch of land in the country. Keeping in mind the needs of the 21st century, we are modernizing our army and defense forces with modern resources. We want our army to compete with the most modern army in the world. Prolonged diplomatic and military talks have resolved the issue in some parts of the Line of Control. We have reached a consensus on resolving the issues on the Line of Control between India and China. This is a huge improvement. I would say that this achievement has been achieved only because of your courage and discipline. I believe that talks with China have been possible only because of your heroic spirit. We want to continue to build peace through consensus.
We should keep in mind that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had once said, “We can change our friends, but not our neighbors.” We always want to maintain good relations with our neighbours. This is a clear policy of India. But sometimes due to circumstances we have to struggle to protect our boundaries. “The government will make all efforts to maintain peace while keeping in mind the welfare of our armed forces,” the minister said.
