First assembly session in Kashmir, Abdul Rahim elected speaker

Latest News :- On August 5, 2019, the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was canceled and the state was divided into two union territories. After 10 years, Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections were held last September-October. Out of the total 90 seats, the National Conference-Congress alliance won 49 seats and took over the government. BJP emerged as the strongest opposition party with 29 seats.
After 6 years: National Conference Party Vice President Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on 16th of last month. In such a situation, the first session of the new assembly started from yesterday. Yesterday was the first session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly after its dissolution in November 2018. The first task of the House was the election of the Speaker. Senior National Conference Party leader and 7th time MLA Abdul Rahim Rather was elected Speaker unopposed by voice vote.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and interim President Mubarak Gul congratulated him. Rather was taken to the speaker's seat. Then Omar Abdullah said, “Rather, he is a natural choice for this post.” Rather, those who sometimes sat on the ruling party line and sometimes on the opposition line and worked for the people, are now the guardians of this House, he said.
Governor's address today: The first session of the new assembly will end on the 8th. The Lieutenant Governor will address the Assembly today. Condolences will also be expressed towards the deceased former MLAs in the House. The motion of thanks on the Lieutenant Governor's address is to be debated on November 6 and 7.
