Latest News :- In Uttarakhand, 36 people died when a bus overturned into a 650 feet deep gorge. 27 seriously injured people have been admitted to the hospital. President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Thami and others have expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
A bus started from Naini Thanda in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand and was heading towards Ramnagar in Nainital district. It is being told that there were 63 people in the bus which could carry 40 people. Yesterday at 7 am the bus was going on the banks of Keet Zakir river near Gubi village of Almora district. Then suddenly the driver lost control of the bus and it overturned in a 650 feet deep gorge nearby.
According to Almora District Disaster Management Officer Vineet Paul, “After receiving information about the bus accident, local police, State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, Revenue Department and medical team reached the spot. Our soldiers also joined them in the rescue operation,” he said.
Officials said that bodies of 36 people, including women and children, involved in the accident have been recovered and 27 seriously injured people have been admitted to Ramnagar Hospital. The death toll is expected to rise as the condition of five of the injured is critical. Meanwhile, State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Thami, Secretary Disaster Management Department, District Magistrate Almora were contacted over phone and got information about the accident. After this he ordered the officials to speed up the rescue work.
Meanwhile, the local police has registered a case and is investigating the incident. Initial investigation has revealed that there were more than 60 people in the bus which could carry 43 passengers. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Thami has ordered the dismissal of District Transport Assistant Officers who failed to perform their duties.
Also, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Thami has announced that a relief of Rs 4 lakh each will be given to the families of those who died in the accident. He also announced that Rs 1 lakh each would be given to the injured. Apart from this, the Chief Minister has ordered Kumaon Zonal Commissioner to conduct a judicial inquiry into the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the victims of the accident and announced that their families will be given Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund and the injured will be given Rs 50,000 each. In this regard, the Chief Minister said on his X page, “The bus accident in Almora district is sad. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. The concerned authorities have been ordered to carry out the rescue operation quickly.”
President Dharupati Murmu said on his X page, “I am heartbroken to hear the news of the death of women and children in the Uttarakhand accident. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the accident.
