Lotus Might Be Coming With A New Electric Sports Car

As most manufacturers move towards their electric future, Lotus has a few plans as well. They have teased a new upcoming sports car on their social media and while much is not known about the vehicle yet, it gets us very excited. Lotus currently has only three electric vehicles in its portfolio. The first is the Evija hypercar and the second is the Eletre electric SUV while the third is the Emeya sedan.

A new electric sports car from Lotus will arrive sometime next year. We do hope that it is not a limited edition hypercar which only a few will be able to enjoy. From the two teasers that Lotus has released we can just make out a few details of the vehicle. There is going to be a lot of carbon fibre to make it lightweight and we can see the LED lightbar strip along with the active rear spoiler of the vehicle. On the inside, it has a rectangular shaped steering wheel which seems to be picked right out of a race car.

Rumors suggest that it will be underpinned by the Lotus LEVA platform. It will also have a single motor or dual motor option producing anywhere between 470 bhp to 872 bhp. It could potentially be the next generation replacement of the Elise and Evora.

Lotus is calling it Theory 1, which is a weird name for a car but a perfect name for a concept which makes us believe that this will indeed be a concept car and the production car will come at a later date.

We are not sure how Lotus, which is a brand synonymous with building lightweight sportscars will hold up in the current trends of the industry where electric cars are not being proffered and there is a declining trend but there always has been a market for super-exotic EVs for a long time now. Lotus will showcase the car on September 16, 2024.
