Rajasthan News Desk !!! Vijay Stambh, also known as “Victory Tower”, is the identity of Chittorgarh. Vijay Stambh was built by Mewar king Rana Kumbha in 1448 to celebrate his victory over the combined army of Malwa and Gujarat led by Mahmud Khilji.

This magnificent pillar was constructed between 1458 and 1488. Due to its huge form, it is visible from any corner of the city. Vijay Stambh is a 122 feet high 9 storey structure, which is a very amazing and beautiful example of Indian and Rajput architecture. Vijay Stambh is wide from the bottom, narrow from the middle and wide from the top, due to which its shape looks like a damru. About 157 stairs have been built to go up in this magnificent building. In 1448, King Rana Kumbha of Mewar built this amazing structure under the guidance of the great architects of that time. The interior parts of Vijay Stambh have statues of Hindu deities, various incarnations of Vishnu and many characters of Ramayana and Mahabharata. This nine-storey building made of red sandstone and white marble is a complex geometric structure in itself.

There is a stone plaque engraved on the upper floor of the Vijay Stambh, which gives information about the rulers of Chittorgarh and their bravery. This wonderful work was done by Rana Kumbha's court scholar Atri and his son Mahesh. The names of the architects who built this magnificent building are also engraved on the 5th floor of the pillar.
