Do not ignore swelling on the skin, dangerous infection of cellulitis is increasing in many areas of the country, it is important to be aware…

New Delhi:- Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the skin that spreads to the tissue beneath your skin. It can be serious if it is not treated promptly with antibiotics.

Cellulitis can occur on any part of the body, including your face. If you think you or someone around you has cellulitis, it is important to seek medical help as soon as possible.

Cellulitis infection is spreading in various parts of Telangana and neighboring states. Medical experts are warning that if ignored, this disease can lead to serious complications. This disease, which starts with infection, swelling and inflammation, can worsen quickly if not treated properly on time.

Recent reports highlight rising cases in districts like Karimnagar, Siricilla and Warangal. In Karimnagar alone, nearly 150 cases have been reported, with worrying consequences. In one case, a woman's leg had to be amputated due to the uncontrolled spread of the infection, while another patient needed surgery. Many victims are still battling the disease, with the infection proving difficult to handle in many cases.

What are the symptoms of this disease…
The infected area becomes red and appears swollen.

The swelling increases gradually and feels hotter than other parts of the body.

How it spreads

Cellulitis is caused by bacteria, mainly Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, which enter through cuts, wounds or insect bites. The infection can spread by standing in contaminated water or unhygienic conditions. Individuals with filariasis or chronic wounds are at greater risk, especially in humid or rainy conditions when mosquito bites are more likely.
Precautions to be taken

Avoid mosquito and insect bites.

People with filariasis or diabetes should be especially careful.

Avoid scratching the itchy areas, as this may make the condition worse.

Cellulitis is more prevalent during the rainy season when insects are active.

Seek treatment immediately to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the body and becoming septic.

Early treatment is important Medical professionals emphasize the importance of treatment in the early stages of cellulitis. Antibiotics are the most effective treatment, and delays may require hospitalization. In severe cases, intravenous antibiotics may be needed.

Dr S Praveen Kumar, assistant professor at Gandhi Hospital, emphasises that cellulitis cannot be treated with painkillers or ointments. These measures are ineffective and can make the infection worse.

Proper use of antibiotics is important for treating cellulitis. Medical experts urge people to be aware of the symptoms and seek proper medical help instead of resorting to self-medication. Timely intervention can prevent serious complications and lead to quick recovery.
