The main contest is between current President Ranil Wickremesinghe, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and leftist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake. This is the first election in Sri Lanka after the economic crisis of the year 2022.

The election results will be declared on Sunday

Wickremesinghe took charge in July 2022

Wickremesinghe, 75, took office in July 2022 after his predecessor Gotabaya Rajapaksa was forced to flee the country and later resign following widespread protests over a severe financial crisis. Parliament elected Wickremesinghe to serve the remainder of the five-year term vacated by Rajapaksa, elected in November 2019.
