Kalikesh Singh Deo becomes the new President of NRAI

Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has become the new president of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) defeating VK Dhal 36-21 in the elections held here on Saturday. Kalikesh, a former MP from Odisha, was looking after the day-to-day affairs of the NRAI since the resignation of Raninder Singh last year.

Last year, the Sports Ministry had issued a directive that no official of the National Sports Federations can hold office for more than 12 years under the National Sports Code. After this, Raninder resigned, whose 12 years were completed on 29 December 2022.

Since Raninder's resignation in April last year, NRAI's senior vice-president Kalikesh was looking after its operations. During his tenure as acting chief, India won three medals in shooting at the Paris Olympics. Indian shooters returned empty-handed from the Rio Olympics 2016 and Tokyo Olympics 2020. Kalikesh will remain the NRAI president till 2025.
