Varanasi : In the backdrop of reports of alleged mixing of animal fat in the laddus of Tirupati Venkateswara temple, former President Ram Nath Kovind said on Saturday that prasad is a symbol of faith for the devotees and adulteration in it is condemnable.

Kovind also expressed apprehension that this problem may not be limited to just one temple, but it may be the story of every temple. Kovind said that adulteration has been called a sin even in Hindu scriptures. Prasadam is a symbol of faith for the devotees and adulteration in it is reprehensible. A major political controversy has arisen after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu claimed that during the previous government in the state, animal fat was used in the laddus served as prasadam in Tirupati's Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple.

The former President said that the news about the prasad of Tirupati Tirumala temple is very worrying. Hindus have great respect for prasad, but such incidents raise doubts in their minds about prasad. Kovind said that he did not have the good fortune of visiting Baba Vishwanath here this time, but some of his colleagues had gone to the temple and “they brought me prasad and I immediately remembered Tirumala Prasadam.”
