Free, open Indo-Pacific among priorities, says PM Modi in Quad Summit | Top updates

Wilmington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Quad summit along with top leaders of the US, Australia, and Japan early on Sunday morning. During the summit, the Prime Minister said that the free open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region is the group’s priority. He also said that the group is not against anyone but a rules-based international order.

  • Prime Minister Narendra attended the Quad summit hosted by US President Joe Biden. The meeting was also attended by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
  • During his speech, PM Modi said that Quad is not against anyone, but for a rules-based international order.
  • At the summit, PM Modi said that Free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific is Quad’s priority.
  • The Prime Minister further said that while Quad is here to stay, its priority is to partner to assist and to complement.
  • The working together of the Quad countries with its democratic values is very important for the entire humanity, PM Modi added.
  • He further observed that many positive and inclusive initiatives by Quad members in various fields including critical health security, emerging technologies, capacity building abd climate change.
  • “Four years since elevating the Quad to a leader-level format, the Quad is more strategically aligned than ever before and is a force for good that delivers real, positive, and enduring impact for the Indo-Pacific,” the joint statement of the Quad Summit said.
  • The declaration added, “We celebrate the fact that over just four years, Quad countries have built a vital and enduring regional grouping that will buttress the Indo-Pacific for decades to come.”
  • During the summit, Quad countries launched Cancer Moonshot Initiative. The aim of the initiative is to focus initially on combatting cervical cancer among the citizens of member countries.
