Maruti Fronx Crosses 2 Lakh Sales Milestone in Just 17 Months

New Delhi: The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has achieved a significant sales milestone by surpassing 2 lakh units in India, just 17 months after its launch in April 2023. The compact SUV, based on the popular Baleno, has been a key performer in Maruti’s premium Nexa outlet. This milestone reinforces the vehicle’s growing popularity in India’s utility vehicle market.

The Fronx recorded its first 1 lakh sales in just 10 months, followed by 1.5 lakh units in 14 months. By mid-September 2024, the vehicle crossed the 2 lakh mark, making it the fastest Nexa SUV to do so. This milestone was achieved five months earlier than the Maruti Grand Vitara, which previously held the record.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Fronx sold 1,34,735 units in FY2024, averaging over 11,000 units per month. In the current fiscal year, from April to August 2024, it sold 59,967 units, marking a 15% year-on-year growth. This figure translates to nearly 12,000 units sold monthly, helping the Fronx secure the fifth position among the top 20 utility vehicles in India during the first five months of FY2025.

The Fronx’s strong performance further highlights Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in the utility vehicle segment, where the company leads with a 25.55% market share. It is one of three Maruti UVs to register year-on-year growth, alongside the Brezza and Ertiga. In contrast, models like the Grand Vitara, XL6, Jimny, and Invicto have experienced a decline in sales.

The Maruti Fronx faces tough competition from rivals such as the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, and Citroen C3. Additionally, the Toyota Taisor, a rebadged version of the Fronx, has sold 11,218 units in just four months since its launch. Despite the competitive landscape, the Fronx continues to hold its own, supported by its premium features, reliable performance, and widespread appeal among Indian consumers.

In FY2024, the Fronx emerged as the second-highest-selling Nexa model, following its donor model, the Baleno, which sold 1,95,607 units. The Grand Vitara remains Nexa’s best-selling SUV, with 1,21,169 units sold, reflecting a remarkable 136% year-on-year growth.

With its consistent sales momentum, the Fronx is expected to continue being a vital growth driver for Maruti Suzuki. It has not only contributed significantly to the company’s overall market share but also positioned itself as a preferred choice for Indian consumers looking for a stylish and efficient compact SUV.
