FC Goa coach Manolo Marquez

FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez is unhappy with the outcome of his team’s Indian Super League (ISL) clash against Mohammedan Sporting Club on Saturday.

The Gaurs have salvaged a draw with an injury-time goal by Armando Sadiku after Mohammedan SC took a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute when Alexis Gomez converted a penalty.

FC Goa have so far been winless in the ISL 2024-25 and are placed in the eighth spot with one point to their credit.

In their opening match of the season, FC Goa lost to Jamshedpur FC.

After his team’s draw against Mohammedan SC, Manolo said his team were not in their best shape and expressed uncertainty about whether they truly deserved the draw given their lacklustre display against the Kolkata-based club.

“We are not in a good moment, especially mentally,” Manolo said at the post-match press conference.

“It is not a problem physically or technically because we know the kind of players that we have. But the team seemed tired. Even in some moments, we do not know what to do. Maybe even I do not know, maybe I was wrong with the lineup and the substitutions. It is not about finding who is guilty. The positive thing is playing in this way. We got one point in injury time which I am not sure we deserved,” he added.

‘Not happy with the result’: Andrey

Mohammedan SC created numerous chances but could not find the winner. By playing out a draw, they won their first point of the season.

The club’s Russian coach Andrey Chernyshov shared his dissatisfaction as his team conceded the chance to win their first match of the season by conceding a late goal.

“We had so many chances – not 50-50 chances, but 100 per cent chances. But we did not score,” he said in the post-match press conference.

“And in the last minute, they put in a cross, and they have an experienced striker who knows how to be in these situations. He (Sadiku) came and scored. We are not happy with this result because we were 1-0 up but ended with a 1-1 draw,” he added.

After this draw, Mohammedan Sporting are placed in the ninth spot. They will travel to Chennai to play Chennaiyin FC on September 26.
