Peaceful first phase of elections, 59 percent voting in Jammu and Kashmir

Live Hindi News :- The first phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir concluded peacefully yesterday. It is reported that 59 percent votes were cast in the first phase of elections. Elections are being held in three phases for a total of 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. The first phase of polling was held yesterday in 24 constituencies of 7 districts, including 3 districts of Jammu and 4 districts of Kashmir Valley. A total of 219 candidates, including 90 independents, are in the fray in these constituencies. About 23.27 lakh people, including 5.66 lakh youth, were eligible to vote. A total of 3,276 polling stations were set up.

14,000 people took part in the election process. Army personnel, paramilitary forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police were deployed for security as terrorists could try to disrupt the elections. Voting started at 7 am and continued till 6 pm. People stood in queues since morning to perform their democratic duty. By 5 pm, Kishtwar recorded the highest voter turnout of 77.23%. Doda recorded 69.33%, Ramban 67.71%, Kulgam 59.62% and Pulwama recorded the lowest voter turnout of 43.87%. State Chief Electoral Officer P.K. Bol said that about 59 percent votes were cast in the first phase of elections.

Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years. Also, this is the first election to be held after the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir, which was a united state, was revoked and it was converted into 2 union territories. While the Congress and National Conference are contesting the elections in alliance, the BJP and the People's Democratic Party are contesting separately.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had said in a blog post, “People should come out in large numbers and vote and strengthen the festival of democracy. He called upon the youth and first-time voters to vote regularly. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said in a post, “For the first time in the history of the country, it is a shame that the status of the state has been taken away and it has been turned into a Union Territory. Your vote will bring back Jammu and Kashmir's prosperity,” he said. The second phase of polling for 26 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on October 25 and the third phase of polling for 40 constituencies will be held on October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 4.
