'Less Than 24 Hrs After My Grandmother Passed Away…': How Chennai Test Helped Ex-IND Batter to be 'Calm Amidst Chaos'
The first India vs Bangladesh Test match in Chennai is going to stay close to Abhinav Mukund’s heart forever. The cricketer-turned-broadcaster made his debut as a talk show host and was accompanied by the likes of former wicketkeeper-batters Parthiv Patel & Saba Karim and former Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal. The viewers saw him on all four days moderating the show for the official broadcasters. Once he was done with his assignment on Sunday, after India’s win against Bangladesh in Chennai, Mukund shared an emotional story with his followers on social media.
The former India batter revealed that his family was shaken by his grandmother’s demise, just a day before he played the role of a cricket show anchor for the first time. In a lengthy X post, Mukund said he was nervous in the beginning but eventually felt homely at Chepauk where he witnessed a marvellous performance by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Less than 24 hours after my grandmother passed away, I had to go ‘live’ as an anchor for the very 1st time. From cricketer to expert and now hosting the show I was nervous. But thankfully I felt at home in chepauk and managed to sail through these 4 days and watched the local boy @ashwinravi99 scale newer heights and equal the late Shane Warne’s tally of 5wkt hauls.
Another box ticked in my broadcasting career hosting the English show on @officialjiocinema and I am extremely thankful to @parthiv9 and @TamimOfficial28 for giving me such lovely company throughout the test match. @SyedSabaKarim5 was “natty” as well!

India Beat Bangladesh by 280 runs
Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja spun the web around the Bangladesh batters as India defeated the visitors by 280 runs to win the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Ashwin (6-88), who was adjudged Player of the Match, claimed a five-fer with his match-winning century at his home as Gautam Gambhir’s first Test as India’s head coach starts with an emphatic win.
Ashwin completed his fifer with a wicket of Hasan Miraz. This was the seventh five-fer for Ashwin in the fourth innings of Tests and joint second most alongside Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralidaran and only behind Rangana Herath’s 12.
