Indian captain Rohit Sharma termed the victory as important after defeating Bangladesh by a big margin of 280 runs on the fourth day of the first Test on Sunday.
Rohit said after the match, “This is a very important win for us looking at the future. Rishabh Pant has gone through a very difficult time. The way he dealt with those things is amazing. He likes this format the most. We always knew how capable he is. It was just a matter of giving him game time.”
The captain said, “We want to make a similar team in any condition. We always want that we do not have a shortage of options in fast bowling or spin. This pitch was quite easy. There was help for the fast bowlers here and there was a lot for the spin bowlers as well. This was such a pitch where you had to show patience.”
Praising Player of the Match Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit said, “He is always with you. He keeps telling you what to do and what not to do. I have no words for what he does for this team. He is never out of the match. After playing in the IPL, he played in the TNPL and there he also batted in the top order, the effect of which is clearly visible.
Rohit Sharma did not perform well in both the innings of this match but under his captaincy India won this Test and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
