Prime Minister Modi's meeting with Biden was emotional: Foreign Secretary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden in Wilmington was emotional. This was Biden's last meeting with Modi in an official capacity as Biden is not contesting the presidential election again.

The US President hosted Modi at his private residence in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday and the two leaders held wide-ranging talks on various key aspects of India-US relations.

Modi and Biden have developed a close friendship over the past four years and have worked together on a number of global and regional issues. Last year, Biden hosted Modi for a historic official state visit.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told reporters on Sunday, “The meeting with President Biden was emotional. The Prime Minister is aware that in a way it was a farewell meeting with President Biden and being at his private residence made it a more special occasion.”

“In fact, he (Modi) mentioned to him (Biden) that in India we say when the doors of the heart open up, the doors of the house also open up,” Misri said during a special press briefing in New York on the first day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's three-day US visit.

He said, “There is a very personal and emotional bond between the two leaders. The atmosphere of the meeting was very special in itself.”
