Team India will look to complete a whitewash against Bangladesh when the two sides face off in the second Test starting at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Friday, September 27. Rohit Sharma’s India team are already up 1-0 in the series after their 280-run victory in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

However, even with a win under their belt, it is not certain that Team India will head into the second Test with the same playing 11. One of the necessitated changes could be due to the faltering batting, especially in the first innings of the first Test when India were reduced to 144 for 6 before Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bailed them out.

KL Rahul returned to the playing XI directly for the Chennai Test after missing out of last two Tests against England due to injury by replacing Sarfaraz Khan – who made an impressive start in his first appearance in Test cricket. The Mumbai batter notched up 200 runs in his first 3 Tests against England with three fifties.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rahul doesn’t have a long rope after failing in the first innings in Chennai and not managing a long innings in the second essay as well.

Meanwhile, the second Test is being held in Kanpur, which is the home ground of chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav. India may opt for three spinners on the Green Park track, which has been known to assist spinners over the years.

Kuldeep, who has played 12 Tests since his debut in 2017 and has taken 53 wickets, last played a Test for India against England in March this year. In that series, Kuldeep impressed in four matches he played, taking 19 wickets and scoring some valuable runs with the bat. He was not picked for the first Test in Chennai as India opted for three pacers – Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.

However, former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar said that Kuldeep should have played in the first Test as the pitch would have offered immense support to spinners after the first one-and-a-half days. He urged the team to play two pacers in Siraj and Bumrah and three spinners in the Kanpur Test, starting from September 27.

“I feel Kuldeep Yadav should not be dropped so easily. I believe that even if it was not a turner, India would have benefited from playing Kuldeep Yadav in Chennai because the seamers will get help for just one or one-and-a-half days on an Indian pitch. It starts supporting spinners after that and when you have a bowler like Kuldeep Yadav, you should not keep him out this easily,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo website.

“India should go with this approach in Kanpur. Even if it’s a green top and the sun is out, they should keep in mind that the green top will be just for the first few hours, and Siraj and Bumrah are enough for that. When you have three proven spinners, you should play all of them,” he added.

If Kuldeep Yadav does come into the playing 11, he will replace Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Akash Deep.
