'Israel dealt Hezbollah a blow it could never have imagined': Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country had dealt Hezbollah “shocks” in recent days that the group “could not have imagined.” “If Hezbollah hasn’t understood the message, I promise you — it will,” Netanyahu warned in a video statement released by his office on Sunday. He stressed Israel’s commitment to restoring security in the north, saying: “We are determined to send our northern residents back safely to their homes… We will do whatever it takes to restore security.”

Overnight, Hezbollah intensified its rocket attacks, targeting areas near Haifa, including the headquarters of Israel's state-owned defense technology firm Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, and a military airbase at the Ramat David base in northern Israel, according to news agency Xinhua.

Amid this sharp escalation, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant confirmed that the military would continue its aggressive response. Speaking during a tour of the Air Force Control Center on Sunday morning, Galant said Hezbollah had “started realizing some of our capabilities,” referring to the weekend airstrikes in Beirut that resulted in at least 37 deaths, including Ibrahim Aqeel, the acting commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force.

Israel is also believed to be responsible for a series of attacks earlier this week that blew up thousands of wireless communications devices in Lebanon, killing at least 37 people, including civilians, and injuring thousands more.

Additionally, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced that he had spoken to “dozens” of foreign ministers, sending a clear message: If the international community does not pressure Hezbollah to withdraw its forces north of the Litani River in southern Lebanon, “Israel will do so.” Katz emphasized that the withdrawal of Hezbollah forces is “essential” to creating a security zone that will allow Israeli settlers living near the Lebanese border to return home.

The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it continues air strikes in Lebanon and has bombed 400 Hezbollah targets since Saturday. According to Lebanese military sources, at least three people were killed and four others injured during intense Israeli airstrikes on Sunday.

Amid fears that cross-border fighting that began in October last year could spiral into a major war in the Middle East, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert warned of an “impending catastrophe” in the region.

“The region is on the brink of imminent catastrophe, so it would not be an exaggeration to say that there is no military solution that can make either side safe,” he wrote on the social media platform X.
