He is the first leftist leader who has reached the post of President of Sri Lanka. Actually, there was a rebellion in Sri Lanka in 2022 due to the economic crisis. This was the first presidential election after this rebellion. A total of 39 candidates were contesting for the post of President in this election, out of which the main contest was between former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake.


Anura Kumara Dissanayake's party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had formed an alliance with the National People's Front in this election. Their alliance won the election, after which Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected the new President of Sri Lanka.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake came into the limelight in the year 2022 when he became the main face of the public revolt during the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. During the revolt, he raised the voice of the people. Due to this, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa was forced to leave power. After this development, Anura Kumara Dissanayake's popularity increased. During the election campaign, he talked about improving the country's economy.

It is said that leftist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has close ties with China, which can also have an impact on Sri Lanka-India relations. During the election campaign, he had commented on many ongoing projects with India, he had also talked about stopping them.

Let us tell you that Anura Kumara Dissanayake came into the limelight for the first time in the year 1987. During this time, his party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) opposed the peace agreement between Sri Lanka and India in the 80s. India was already keeping an eye on the Sri Lankan elections.
