The U.S. dollar rose against the Vietnamese dong Monday morning while remaining stable against major peers.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND24,760, up 0.08% from the weekend.

The greenback fell 0.02% to VND25,060 at unofficial exchange points.

The State Bank of Vietnam reduced its reference rate by 0.09% to VND24,126.

The dollar has risen against the dong by 1.39% since the beginning of the year.

Globally, Asian currencies were mostly lower on Monday, while the dollar index, which gauges the currency against a basket of six key counterparts, was flat at 100.7 with investors awaiting comments from Federal Reserve policymakers later in the day, the first remarks from officials after the Fed cut rates by 50 basis points last week, Reuters reported.

“Any U.S. dollar rebound could prove to be short-lived with U.S. yields set to head lower as the Fed aims to engineer a soft landing,” MUFG Bank said in a note.
