Chennai Super Kings Set to retain these players, Reports make a big claim

The Indian Premier League (IPL) teams are in a race against time to complete their retention list in preparation for the upcoming season’s mega auction. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet communicated to the franchises the number of players they can retain before the auction. Every cricket lover is looking out for the decision of the BCCI regarding the retention of the players, and like every other franchise, Chennai Super Kings wants to know more about the retention rules. This is because the board ‘s policy will determine if MS Dhoni will play another season or not.

As per a report by RevSportz, CSK has in fact come up with a 5-member shortlist of players they are looking to retain before the mega auction. Even though reports have stated the BCCI’s allowing the franchises to keep 6 players conclusively including Right-To-Match that includes, there is no clear-cut answer.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana, and MS Dhoni are some of the players that CSK seeks to retain the most.

It was rather unexpected that earlier mentioned players such as Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell and Maheesh Theekshana, etc., found no spot in the retention list that is said to have been made by the franchise. Because Dhoni may not take the field past the year 2025, CSK actually made a very risky decision by allowing certain star players to leave the franchise.

As previously stated, the management of CSK franchises had appealed to the BCCI to lift the ban on franchises retaining an ex player who falls into the uncapped category. However, the board has not yet made any declaration on the matter. It is still unclear if such classification would be allowed or not but it is all but confirmed that Dhoni would be retained in the least paying category.

The said rule permitted even players who have called it quits with international cricket for more than 5 years to be classified as uncapped. This rule were implemented starting from the year two thousand and eight until the year twenty twenty one when it was phased off. The last time Dhoni played international cricket was in the year two thousand and nineteen. Dhoni and the team for which he plays, CHKS would gain if the same rule comes back.

Dhoni would be wishing to finish his career on a high note in the IPL 2025 season as the CSK was unable to make it to the playoffs during the 2024 season. However, this mainly depends on the retention policy that the BCCI is going to formulate.
