If you have claimed EPF (Employee Provident Fund) and it has been rejected, you may not understand the reason for it. The EPFO portal sometimes gives reasons like 'incomplete documents' or 'error in details', which confuses people as to where the mistake happened.
Reasons for EPF claim rejection:
- KYC is incomplete – If your KYC documents are not updated properly, your claim may get rejected.
- Not linking UAN and Aadhaar – It is necessary to link UAN (Universal Account Number) with Aadhaar in EPFO.
- Mistake in name and date of birth – If your name or date of birth is different in EPFO records and your documents, then there may be a problem.
- Difference between UAN and EPFO records – If there is any discrepancy between your UAN number and EPFO records, the claim may get rejected.
- Difference between joining and leaving date – The date when you joined or left the company must be correct.
- Incorrect bank account details – Mistake in your bank account number, IFSC code or branch name may prevent the claim.
- Mistake in the claim form – Even a small mistake made while filling the form can become a big reason.
- Failure in EPS transfer – If you do not transfer the pension scheme, the claim may get stuck.
- Ineligibility for EPS account – If your monthly basic salary is more than ₹15,000, your EPS account may be ineligible.
- Do not take Annexure K – If you are transferring PF and you have not received Annexure K, then there may be problem in claim.

- File a complaint with EPFO – You can lodge your complaint on the EPFO website.
What to do so that EPF claim is not rejected?
- Check any discrepancy between Aadhaar and EPFO records – Make sure your information is same in both places.
- Link UAN with Aadhaar – And check that your Aadhaar linked mobile number is active.
- Update PF nomination – If you have not updated the nomination, do it immediately.
- Check your previous employment record – There should be no overlap or gap anywhere.
- Verify bank account details – Enter the account number, IFSC code or branch name correctly.
- Transfer EPS and get pension certificate – This will make your pension claim process easier.
- Fill the claim form carefully – Check all the information before submitting.
