Aaron Logart becomes commissioner of US National Cricket League, will launch new cricket tournament

Washington: Many efforts are being made to increase the popularity of cricket in America. For this, national cricket is being promoted and for this America is also going to introduce a new format of cricket.

Meanwhile, America's National Cricket League (NCL) has appointed former International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Aaron Lorgat as its commissioner. The aim of this league is to make cricket popular in America.

Aaron Logart's experience

Lorgat, a former first-class cricketer, served as the CEO of the ICC from 2008 to 2012. He oversaw three World Cups and played a key role in the introduction of the Decision Review System (DRS), the expansion of anti-corruption measures and the development of cricket in associate nations.

“I am privileged to take on this role with the National Cricket League at such a transformative time. Cricket is a sport that has the power to inspire new players and engage fans across America,” Lorgat said in a statement.

Introduction of new format

Led by Haroon Lorgat, the NCL will host its first 'Sixty Strikes' tournament, a new 60-ball format approved by the ICC. The tournament will be held from October 4 to 14 at the University of Dallas, making it the first national sports league to partner with a university. The NCL is expecting around 4,000 spectators per day.

Big players will take part

This year the league will feature top players from across the world including Shahid Afridi, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan, Robin Uthappa, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Chris Lynn, Angelo Mathews, Colin Munro, Sam Billings and Mohammad Nabi.

Cricket legends like Zaheer Abbas, Wasim Akram, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sir Vivian Richards, Venkatesh Prasad, Sanath Jayasuriya, Moin Khan and Blair Franklin will also be part of the league as mentors and coaches.
