No decision will be taken on the new secretary in the BCCI meeting, this issue will be discussed

New Delhi: There will be no discussion on the appointment of a new secretary this time in the upcoming council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The apex council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will discuss several issues related to the functioning of the board on Wednesday but the appointment of a new secretary in place of outgoing secretary Jay Shah is not on the agenda.

This will be the last meeting of the apex council before the board's 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Bengaluru in five days. The appointment of a new secretary has become necessary after Shah was unanimously elected as ICC chairman.

Byju's payment will be discussed

However, he will not step down from his current role as BCCI secretary during the upcoming AGM as he is scheduled to take up his new position at the ICC from December 1. But discussion on the nomination process is also not part of the eight items listed on the apex council agenda including an update on Byju's case.

The BCCI is in a payment settlement dispute with its former title sponsor Byju's. The troubled edtech firm ended its sponsorship deal with the BCCI in March last year.

Discussion on Cricket Academy

The Bengaluru-based company, co-founded by Byju Raveendran, had initially signed the jersey sponsorship deal for three years in March 2019, which was later extended for another year for a reported amount of $55 million.

The payment was made till September 2022 but the dispute is about the payment of dues from October 2022 to March 2023. The inauguration of the state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru will also be discussed.

Currently, the NCA functions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium complex since its inception more than two decades ago. Starting the renovation work of the exterior of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and approving the Northeast Development Project are also part of the agenda.
