The team's victory was confirmed after the US held Kazakhstan to a 2-2 draw, eliminating the need for a tie-break. Had Kazakhstan won, the competition would have gone into an extra round. India's success was thanks to the brilliant performances of D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa, who won their respective matches in the 11th and final round to give India its first gold medal in the tournament.
World Championship Challenger D Gukesh played a key role in India's victory, especially his impressive win against Slovenia's Vladimir Fedoseev was commendable. Despite facing immense pressure, the 18-year-old Grandmaster won with his strategy and technical skills and played a major role in India's historic victory. This post by Amitabh Bachchan celebrates the victories of chess stars whose talent and hard work have brought honour to the country on the global stage.
