Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party targeted LG and said- 'Strategy to take credit'

Delhi LG Vinay Kumar Saxena directed the capital's officials to launch a 'Dust Free Delhi' campaign within 7 to 10 days. He has asked all the concerned government agencies including MCD, PWD, NDMC, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and Delhi Jal Board to take this step before the winter season. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) termed the LG's order as a 'credit-taking strategy'.

Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said on the LG's order that an all-departmental meeting was called on the issue but it could not take place due to the unavailability of the chief secretary.

'Road dust is the biggest challenge'

LG said that running a campaign on air pollution before the onset of winter will provide relief to the people of Delhi from the problems caused by it. In a statement issued by Delhi LG Vinay Saxena, it was said that pollution caused by road dust is the biggest contributor to air pollution. Dry soil or silt on the roads is also a cause of air pollution.

All agencies should work in coordination with each other

LG has advised road-owning agencies, mainly MCD and PWD, to clear the dust from the roads, prevent it from accumulating and take it to the designated dumping sites. MCD, IFCD and DJB officials have been asked to coordinate and take the silt or mud out of the city.

He said that this will help in reducing air pollution in Delhi and preventing waterlogging. If it rains again, the wet soil or silt will have to be removed continuously to prevent the drains and sewer lines from getting clogged.
