Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead Rest of India squad, Ishan Kishan in squad as well

The BCCI has announced a 15-member Rest of India (RoI) squad for the upcoming ZR Irani Cup, with Ruturaj Gaikwad set to lead the team against the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead Rest of India against Mumbai in Irani Cup 2024.

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India today announced a 15-member Rest of India (RoI) squad for the ZR Irani Cup to be held during the coming days at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow from 1 to 5 October. Mumbai would be RoI’s opposition, as the latter is also the champion of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy.

Rest of India is scheduled to take on Mumbai in the ZR Irani Cup under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, as India recently claimed Asian Games gold. Indian cricketers Yash Dayal and Dhruv Jurel, who are part of the second Test match squad, will not feature in the Irani Cup game. Gaikwad had recently captained India C in the Duleep Trophy 2024, which saw them go to the finals. Ishan Kishan, who produced a ton in his last outing for Duleep Trophy, will also feature.

“Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been selected in the Rest of India squad and their participation is subject to them not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur. The 2nd Test will begin from 27th September” said BCCI in domestic release.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan, who was part of the Ranji 2023-24 winners Mumbai, will also be released from the national squad to represent his state team in the Irani Cup clash.

“Sarfaraz Khan who has been retained in the Team India squad for the 2nd Test, will be released to represent the Mumbai team subject to him not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur” added the release.

India’s star T20I batter Rinku Singh who plays for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy has failed to secure his place in the ROI squad.
