Nisha Rawal On Being A Single Parent To Kavish Post-Divorce: 'You Have To Live With Yourself'

Nisha Rawal made headlines due to her turbulent legal battle with her estranged husband, Karan Mehra, especially after she accused him of domestic violence. Nisha recently appeared on Rubina Dilaik’s podcast, Kisine Bataya Nahi, where she opened up about her struggles with bipolar disorder and clinical anxiety. She also shared her experiences as a single parent to her son, Kavish.

Nisha revealed her ongoing battle with clinical anxiety and bipolar disorder, explaining how it affects her daily life. She described her journey of self-regulation and finding effective coping mechanisms. She shared that she once relied on medication but has now learned to manage her condition without it. Nisha addressed the stigma surrounding mental health, sharing her frustration with people who mock mental health issues, often using terms like “bipolar” in a derogatory way.

“One has to take active steps every single day because you have to live with yourself. You have to live with your anxiety, so it’s an everyday process. One should only have appreciation for people around us who are going through something like that, and one probably can’t really empathise because they are not really going through it because people say ‘anxiety toh sabko hoti hai. But when you’re going through something clinical, it’s really major,” Nisha added.

Addressing mental health and how diverse experiences have shaped her understanding of life, Nisha revealed the challenges she faced, including childhood trauma and struggles with mental health.

“I’ve had a miscarriage before Kavish. So there is so much that has already happened that I feel I have become very enriched with experiences because I have taken it in a positive way. Tomorrow, Lord forbid, if something happens to my child or he needs me, I will give him advice with my firsthand experience, and nothing teaches you more than that,” Nisha said.

Reflecting on her journey as a single parent, Nisha mentioned that motherhood significantly enhances one’s capacity for empathy.

“I took inspiration from my mom because Mamma was a single parent and she also had a broken family. So, I’ve been seeing all that generational trauma that has happened over the years,” she said.

She further addressed the misconceptions people have about her where they assume that she doesn’t experience pain or sadness. “People think I just wake up, get ready and get out of the house dressed like a heroine. I feel that that requires a lot of courage, everyday courage, yes, just waking up and putting on your makeup and just driving that car Stanly, or talking to a friend who probably needs you, or even posting the right kind of content on social media that will inspire others,” she added.

Nisha Rawal and Karan Mehra got married in 2012, but their relationship ended in 2021. Nisha filed a police complaint against Karan, accusing him of cheating and domestic violence.
