Intel Xeon 6900P Brings Intel Back in the Game

This is the first time in about 86 months that Intel has its own leadership server x86 CPU again. The Intel Xeon 6 with P-cores series entails about 128 cores,12 memory channels, an accelerator, and a brand new process technology which becomes a very interesting launch. It is therefore essential to understand that Xeon 6 can be seen as an ultimate slow roll-out.

Today, we have the Intel Xeon 6900P series but a few months ago there was the launch of the Intel Xeon 6700E series “Sierra Forest,” which has 144 E-cores. Two of them are Intel Xeon 6, but in practice, they have varied features and are different from each other.

This shows that Xeon 6 can be perceived as a family covering a lot of ground, but not necessarily all in a singular product. The Intel Xeon 6960P is equipped with 72 cores which is equivalent to the CPU portion of a NVIDIA Grace Hopper CPU and this appears as a rather interesting fact.

Intel is currently using SMTt, but it also gives Intel around 6MB of L3 cache per core and higher clock speeds. To handle the AI servers, Intel has been winning sockets even without the newly launched CPUs. But it also has to be stated that Intel Xeon 6 can also be considered as a complex addition which has been created with.

P-cores, E-cores, 8-channel or 12-channel memory configurations, different memory types, accelerators and so forth. However, one main message that comes with the launch is that Intel is back in the market and it has also made it presence felt with the new features.

The new process and packaging technology is helping Intel yo get back to core-to-core competitiveness with AMD. The quest of 64 EPYC cores versus 28 Xeon cores, or 96 EPYC cores versus 64 Xeon cores will not be a thing anymore after this. Intel has been successful in solving a number of its inherent count issue, while also offering things like AMX, QAT, and more for acceleration, high-end DDR5, and MRDIMM (MCR DIMM) solutions for big memory bandwidth which appears as an attractive bargain for avid consumers.

Previously Intel has been downgraded for its process leadership with 10nm and Ice Lake. But this time Intel has vouched for improving the manufacturing and packaging and therefore Intel’s return in the market becomes rather self-explanatory. Therefore without any further adieu we need to give the warmest welcome to Intel for its game changing release.
