Rishabh Pant is a great bowler, there is little room for error – Nathan Lyon

MUMBAI Mumbai: Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon believes there is no room for error while bowling to Rishabh Pant. He said that this young wicketkeeper batsman of India has immense talent to beat the best attack in the world. Pant will be a vital part of the Indian batting lineup during the upcoming five-Test Border-Gavaskar series starting in Perth from November 22. Pant, 26, recently returned to Test cricket after nearly 21 months following a fatal car accident in December 2022 and scored a century in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai.

“You are bowling against a player like Rishabh Pant, who is fantastic. He has all the skills in the world,” Lyon, who has taken 530 Test wickets and is expected to play a key role in the series against India, told Star Sports. “As a bowler, you have very little margin for error. So, you have to perform well. If I am going to get hit for a six, it is a challenge as a bowler,” the 36-year-old Lyon said. Pant has been in excellent form in the last two Test series against Australia, scoring 624 runs in 12 innings at an average of 62.40, including a century and two half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 159.

The wicketkeeper-batsman scored an unbeaten 89 in the second innings of the Brisbane Test in 2021, in which Australia lost their first Test at the ground in 32 years, while India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and won the series 2-1. Lyon said he would try to push Pant on the back-foot and try to make him commit some mistakes. “I am not afraid of getting hit for a six. The challenge is to give batsmen a chance and keep a guy like Rishabh at the crease and potentially try to make him defend me as much as possible… and hopefully create some opportunities along the way.”
