The historic Patwon Ki Haveli in Jaisalmer is one of the oldest structures in Rajasthan. Patwon Ki Haveli is a group of five havelis which were built by Patwa, a wealthy businessman of Jaisalmer. This businessman had five sons and a haveli was built for each of them. It is believed that it took the architects about thirty years to design this haveli and about thirty more years to build it, that is, it took more than 60 years to build these five havelis. The first haveli was built in the year 1805 by Guman Chand Patwa, who was a famous jeweler and brocade merchant of India, due to which this haveli is also known as Kothari Ki Patwa Haveli.

Talking about the architecture of this Haveli, the most special thing here is that the walls of this Haveli have a very beautiful and amazing glass work. The pictures and fine carvings of trees, plants, nature, animals and historical events have been done very beautifully on the walls. There are more than 60 balconies in Patwon Ki Haveli, on whose pillars different types of mesmerizing paintings have been done. Every door of this Haveli is filled with designs of fine carvings, which is no less than a wonderful example of architecture. Along with this, every window, arch, balustrade and entrance of this Haveli has also been intricately carved and painted with gold, silver and brocade. However, due to the indifference of time, aggressive climate and encroachment, some stains have been put on its grandeur.
