Tokyo: A tsunami warning has now been issued after a powerful earthquake struck Japan. Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning on Tuesday for remote islands south of Tokyo after a powerful earthquake. There is no report of loss of life or property due to this earthquake on a remote coast.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Izu Island on Tuesday morning, and a tsunami warning was issued minutes later that waves up to one meter high were expected in the area. The JMA said a tsunami about 50 centimeters high was detected in the Yane district of Hachijo Island.

The agency said the offshore quake struck about 180 kilometers south of Hachijo Island, about 300 kilometers south of Tokyo. According to Japan's NHK public television channel, residents of Hachijo Island said they did not feel the quake and only heard the tsunami warning. Japan is located in the 'Ring of Fire', an area of ​​the Pacific Ocean that is prone to earthquakes.
