PT Usha receives legal threat, IOA treasurer accuses her of maligning her personal image

New Delhi: There have been many internal differences within the Indian Olympic Association since the beginning of this year. Meanwhile, another new case has come to light regarding the president PT Usha within the IOA. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) treasurer Sahdev Yadav on Tuesday threatened legal action against the organization's president PT Usha for 'tarnishing' his image.

Usha had sought an explanation from Yadav on September 10 based on an anonymous complaint. Yadav is also currently the president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF). The anonymous complaint alleged that Yadav and some other IOA officials were continuing in their posts in violation of the age and tenure guidelines laid down in the National Sports Code.

Board member for 15 years

Under the sports code, it is mandatory for an official to step down after serving in the post for 12 consecutive years. Yadav is also the former secretary of the Indian Weightlifting Federation and has been on its board for 15 years.

In a letter dated September 23, Yadav wrote in strong words to Usha, “It is very unfortunate that you have given importance to such a baseless and politically motivated letter even after knowing that the IOA Executive Council elections were held in 2022 under the supervision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.”

asked to withdraw the notice

He said, “I request you to withdraw your notice sent to several office bearers and executive members including me. If you do not do so, I will be forced to take legal recourse for defaming my personal image through social media and publicly before the Sports Ministry and the IOC (International Olympic Committee).”

Usha's letter to Yadav was also sent to Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and the International Olympic Committee. Yadav claimed that Usha's letter to him was leaked to the media and the public before it reached him.

tarnished personal image

He said in the letter, “This letter has tarnished the image of the IOA as well as my personal social image in the eyes of the people of this country, the government and the IOC.” This latest development has further increased the factionalism going on within the IOA.

Usha has been at loggerheads with the body's executive council members since the beginning of this year. The row escalated when Usha's appointment of Raghuram Iyer as the chief executive officer was declared invalid by a majority of the IOA executive committee members.
