Former Pakistani legend issues massive warning to Gary Kirsten

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has cautioned national team head coach Gary Kirsten that he might lose his job after the 2025 Champions Trophy. Pakistan has faced several challenges recently, including a 2-0 Test series defeat by Bangladesh. They also performed poorly in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. Basit mentioned that reaching the Champions Trophy semifinals would be a significant accomplishment for the team led by Babar Azam, but he believes Kirsten will still be let go.

“Congratulations to Gary Kirsten. He will be in charge until the Champions Trophy. But after that, he will be fired. I’m saying this now—it’s goodbye for him. Making it to the top four would be a big deal for Pakistan. They’ve also gotten involved in the politics of Pakistani cricket. They won’t succeed,” Basit stated on his YouTube channel.

At a special camp organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday, the head coach for white-ball cricket, Gary Kirsten, promised to restore pride in Pakistan’s cricket team.

After facing several challenges, the PCB organized a high-level Connection Camp to create a clear and united plan for the future of Pakistan cricket.

Nine cricketers from Pakistan, including Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shan Masood, attended the camp.

Pakistan’s coaches for red-ball cricket, Jason Gillespie, white-ball cricket, Gary Kirsten, assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, and High Performance expert David Reid were all at the camp.

At a press conference, Kirsten mentioned that during the Connection Camp, they discussed “different topics” that will benefit Pakistan cricket in the future.

“We all want the Pakistan team to be as successful as possible in all formats. Today, we talked about various things that can help us and the team reach its best potential. One important topic was the players’ level of professionalism and making sure they are committed to representing their country well and bringing pride back to Pakistan cricket,” Kirsten said.
