Business Business : Car manufacturer Volkswagen has achieved a significant milestone. Within three years of its launch, the Taigun has achieved a new milestone by selling 1 million units in the Indian and overseas markets. This mid-size SUV was launched in September 2021. According to SIAM, by the end of August 2024, 67,140 Taiguns were sold in India and 32,742 units were exported, taking the total to 99,882 units. In the first days of September, the manufacturer crossed the significant figure of 100,000 units.

The Volkswagen Taigun (VW Taigun) recorded its highest ever domestic sales of 21,736 units in FY23. However, sales have declined slightly since then. On the export front, the company exported 12,621 units in FY24. Tell us why this SUV is so popular?

One of the things people value the most about the Taigun is its safety. The SUV looks solid. It received a 5-star safety rating for both children and adults in the NCAP global crash test. At the time of testing, the Taigun achieved this top rating only on select options with dual front airbags. VW has recently equipped all Taigun variants with six airbags as standard.

The design of the Taigun is very simple. It has features like 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted LED headlights and a chrome grille.

The Volkswagen Taigun is a very practical urban SUV. The ground clearance is 188 mm. Driving this car over rough terrain, deep potholes or speed breakers will not leave any scratches on the lower body. This does not happen often with German cars.

There are two petrol engines available for the Volkswagen Taigun. These include 1.0L and 1.5L TSI engine options. The 1.0-liter engine is capable of developing 115 hp. and 175 Nm of torque, and the larger engine generates 150 hp. and 250 Nm. Both have manual and automatic transmission. A torque converter automatic is available on the 1.0-liter petrol engine, while the 7-speed DSG is available only with the larger engine. The good thing is that VW offers the right engine and transmission combination to the right buyers.
