“Gill has scored more hundreds than Virat and Rohit”: Aakash Chopra on young batter’s prince title

Aakash Chopra said that Shubman Gill is rightly called the Prince of Indian cricket. He highlighted that the young batter has scored more international hundreds for India since 2020 and is ahead of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Gill, who was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the opening Test against Bangladesh, amassed an unbeaten 119 runs off 176 balls in the second essay. The hosts won the game by 280 runs to go 1-0 up in the two-Test series.

“Who has scored the most centuries for India National Cricket Team in this decade? There was a tweet from  CricCrazyJohns and he revealed that Shubman Gill has scored  12 hundreds in 114 innings. It is magnificent.

“Rohit Sharma has been a part of 148 knocks in the same time frame, hitting 10 tons. Virat Kohli has played 149 knocks and scored 10 hundreds. Rohit and Virat are our GOATs. But Shubman Gill is ahead with 12 hundreds. His title of Prince is not wrong,” he added.

Aakash further said that Shubman Gill will become one of the greats of the game.

“It is in his DNA. He is running towards greatness. If he can control his mind and plays without taking pressure, the greatness beckons. He is a very good player of the Indian team.”

In 26 Tests, the right-handed batter has managed 1611 runs at 37.26. Gill has scored 578 runs in 21 T20Is, while his ODI tally stands at 2328 in 47 games.
