India to play Malaysia at home for a friendly in November

The India men’s football team will play a friendly match against Malaysia during the FIFA Window on November 19, 2024.

The match will be played in India, the venue for which will be announced later.

Malaysia are currently ranked 132nd in the FIFA ranking, while India are ranked 126th.

The last time the two teams met was in October 2023 in the Merdeka Cup semi-final. The Blue Tigers lost 2-4.

Under newly appointed head coach Manolo Marquez, things have gotten off to a shaky start, with the Indian team going winless in its first two games under the new coach.

Following a goalless draw against Mauritius, India lost 0-3 to Syria in the recently concluded Intercontinental Cup 2024 and finished in third place.

This match would present a good opportunity to further get acclimatized to the Manolo Marquez style of football, involving a possession-based tactical system that requires time to get used to.

After the team’s defeat to Syria, the Spaniard alluded to the same as well, stating “The team is not ready physically. All our players are in pre-season. I know it’s difficult, but the only solution is to keep working.”

Before the friendly against Malaysia, India are scheduled to take part in a tri-nation friendly tournament in Vietnam in October.

India will face the hosts on October 9 and Lebanon on October 12.
