IPL 2025 Auction RTM Rules, Number of RTM Cards

IPL 2025 Auction RTM Rules: Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 auction, many reports suggested that BCCI might allow RTM for this year’s auction but BCCI confirms that the IPL 2025 mega auction will not have RTMs.

Instead of retaining the RTM option for the auction, BCCI increased the ore-auction signing from four to five. Teams can now retain a maximum of five players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

New Changes in IPL 2025 Retention Rules

  • BCCI is set to allow a total of five players retention for the IPL 2025 season instead of four retention.
  • No RTM card for IPL 2025

Possible changes

  • The salary cap for each team could be set at INR 120 crores while it was INR 100 crores for the last auction.
  • A dedicated retention slot is to be allotted for the uncapped players.

What is RTM in IPL Auction?

The Right to Match or RTM is an option used during the Indian Premier League(IPL) auction. It allows the franchise to retain a player who represented the team in the previous season if they match the highest bid placed by another franchise during the auction.

The RTM rule was first introduced in 2014 but has not been used since 2018.

Number of RTM Cards in IPL

Depending upon the team’s retention, the number of RTM cards will vary from team to team.

For Example: If BCCI allows each team to retain up to a maximum of five players ahead of the auction, then the number of RTM cards available will depend upon the team’s pre-auction retention.

  • If a team retains three players, then only two RTM options will be available for them.
  • If a team retains two players, then they will have three RTMs, and so on.
