Jammu, September 25 (HS). Taking a significant step towards women empowerment, the Indian Army has successfully completed a sewing course aimed at uplifting the women of the remote Pir Panjal region, particularly those from Sandot, Manjakot and other areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts. This initiative underlines the Army’s commitment to enhance the socio-economic status of local women by equipping them with critical skills for self-reliance and economic independence.
The course, which began on August 28 last month, was enthusiastically attended by 40 women and two instructors. Equipped with sewing machines and raw materials, the training centre provided comprehensive guidance on sewing from basic sewing techniques to advanced garment design. The initiative is a part of the Indian Army’s larger community development agenda aimed at improving lives in border areas like Pir Panjal. By addressing challenges like isolation and limited access to resources, the Army hopes to foster a strong sense of community and build lasting partnerships with the local population.
