Brook's first ODI century helps England halt Australia's winning streak

England captain Harry Brooke (110 not out) and Will Jacks (84) played brilliant knocks but Australia lost the third ODI by 46 runs due to rain. With this, England has put an end to Australia's winning streak of 14 consecutive matches.

England had a very bad start while chasing the target of 305 runs in the match played on Tuesday night and lost the wickets of both its openers at the score of 11. Phil Salt (0) and Ben Duckett (8) were out. Both batsmen were dismissed by Mitchell Starc. After this, Will Jacks and captain Harry Brook took charge. Both batsmen batted aggressively and added 156 runs for the third wicket. In the 28th over, Cameron Green dismissed Will Jacks (84) in 82 balls.


Jamie Smith (7) was out for the fourth wicket. When rain started in 37.4 overs, captain Harry Brook (110 not out) and Liam Livingstone (33 not out) were at the crease in 94 balls and England had scored 254 runs for the loss of four wickets. As the game could not be resumed due to rain, England was declared the winner by 46 runs according to Duckworth Lewis method. Harry Brook, who scored an unbeaten century of 110 runs, was awarded the Player of the Match. However, despite this defeat, Australia is leading 2-1 in the five-match series. Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green took two wickets each for Australia.

Earlier, thanks to the brilliant innings of Alex Carey (77 not out) and Steve Smith (60), Australia gave England a target of 305 runs to win. England won the toss at the River Side Ground and decided to bowl first. Australia did not have a good start while batting and at one point they lost two wickets at a score of 47. Matthew Short (14) was out in the fourth over and captain Mitchell Marsh (24) was out in the 11th over. After this, Steve Smith and Cameron Green handled the innings and added 84 runs for the third wicket.

In the 27th over, Jacob Bethell gave Australia the third blow by dismissing Cameron Green (42). In the very next over, Marnus Labuschagne (zero) returned to the pavilion. Glenn Maxwell scored 30 runs in 25 balls. Aaron Hardy scored (44) runs in 26 balls hitting three fours and two sixes. Alex Carey scored (77 not out) runs in 65 balls hitting seven fours and one six. Sean Abbott remained unbeaten after scoring (two) runs. Australia scored 304 for seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Jofra Archer took two wickets for England. Brydon Carse, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks and Liam Livingstone dismissed one batsman each.
