Bangar and Bayliss farewell from Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have decided to part ways with Trevor Bayliss, the team's head coach, and Sanjay Bangar, head of cricket development during IPL 2024. ESPNcricinfo has learned that the decision has been taken by the franchise's board, which is comprised of the franchise's four co-owners.

Bayliss took over as the head coach of Punjab after the 2022 IPL, while Bangar joined the team in December 2023. Punjab team has not won any IPL trophy till now. They finished eighth in the 2023 IPL and ninth in the last season.


Bangar was the head coach of Punjab in 2014. He held the position till 2016 before becoming India's assistant coach. Bangar was also part of the coaching staff of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a few years before making a comeback to Punjab in 2024. He became the batting consultant of RCB in 2021 and later he also became the head coach of the team.

Bayliss had replaced former Indian captain Anil Kumble as the head coach of the team. Kumble was the head coach of the team from 2020 to 2022, even during this period Punjab was not successful in entering the last four. In order to find the winning formula, Punjab has changed coaches regularly. Kumble himself became the fifth coach of Punjab after Bangar's departure from the post of head coach in 2016. Recently Punjab has signed Ricky Ponting with them for four years (2025-28).
