Who gets discount in Railways?

  • If a student is going home, he gets 50 percent discount on second class and sleeper seat fare. There is also a 50 percent discount on Monthly Season Ticket (MST) and Quarterly Season (QST) tickets (General Category).
  • ST/ST category homebound students get 75 per cent discount on second class and sleeper seat fares. There is also a discount of 75 percent on Monthly Season Tickets (MST) and Quarterly Season Tickets (QST).
  • Girls studying up to graduation and boys studying up to class 12 (including Madrasa students) are entitled to free travel in second class under Monthly Season Ticket (MST) on home-to-school and school-to-home fare.

  • Students appearing for the Civil Services Examination (UPSC) get 50 percent concession in fare when traveling in second class.
  • Foreign students studying in India get 50 per cent concession in Second Class/Sleeper for attending any Indian Government program or for study work.
  • Research scholars up to 35 years of age get 50 percent concession in second class/sleeper while traveling for research work.
  • Students and alumni traveling for study-related work get 25 percent discount on second class and sleeper fares.
