Tamim Iqbal questions DRS technology after this controversial decision in the Kanpur test

The DRS technology used in the second Test match on Friday within the first day’s play had already raised questions from former captain of the Bangladesh national team Tamim Iqbal’s camp, as he was unhappy with the forced removal of Shadman Islam on the particular day. In the course of this discussion, Tamim found himself at odds with Ravis Shastri and Dinesh Karthik, both of who used to play for India at some point in time. According to the ball-tracking technology, Akash Deep believed that the batter Sharma was ‘out’ and following the successful review, even Rohit was shocked. It was a very important wicket for India in that particular given the context but Tamim raised eyebrows and sought clarifications on the DRS technology that caused the batter’s dismissal.

“I was under the impression that one was sliding down the leg stump but alas DRS had different ideas,” Tamim said during the commentary.

There was therefore Tamim without any support from Shastri, the famous Indian geriatric cricketer turned TV pundit also present in the commentary box, when he stated that sometimes these images play tricks with the viewer.

“DK spoke about the angles of the camera. These are not always absolutely at 0 degrees, hence in such cases, an angle of the bowler ‘sliding down the leg’ can be created. In Kanpur, bounce was never going to be an issue. Even the Indian team was baffled. Only one person thought it was out – and that was Akash Deep,” Shastri said.

He has also shown good ability to attack in the first spell to akash deep and Ravichandran Ashwin cleaned up the aggressive Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto before the rain stopped India’s progression in the second Test on the first day of Friday’s play.

Considering the forecast, it was a contest that was bound to be affected by weather from the very beginning. After Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat in dismal light, play resumed for only 35 overs as the visitors limped to 107 for three, including a feeble effort of 31 from Shanto.

Mominul Haque (40 not out) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6) were at the crease when the rain began again.

The match had got delayed by an hour due to overnight rains. The strong greyish conditions also affected the composition of the Indian team as the host opted to keep all the three pacers who played in the Chennai Test, thus Kuldeep Yadav, the local boy, missed one more Test. Akash (2/14 in 10 overs), who had bowled round the wicket to the left handers, had a nice length throughout and managed to get the ball either to swing out or in with the angle provided.

Shanto (57 balls, 4×6), however, displayed an offensive if not outright aggressive effort, thus making sure that Bangladesh does not get off to a sluggish start.
