BJP MLA raped a woman inside the assembly, created a stir

New Delhi. A woman has lodged a police complaint making serious allegations against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA N Munirathna Naidu from RR Nagar, Karnataka. The woman alleges that Munirathna allegedly raped her inside the Assembly (Vidhan Soudha) and a government car.

According to police sources, in her complaint the woman has accused the MLA of raping her several times and honey-trap her. MLA Munirathna was already in judicial custody after being arrested in the rape and honey trap case. Now he has been taken into the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). However, the BJP MLA has denied all the allegations and called them false.

After it was claimed that Munirathna raped the woman inside his office at Vikas Soudha, Congress leaders performed a “purification” ritual at the Vikas Soudha gate of the assembly complex, The Times of India reported. The event was led by Congress leader Manohar, who was later taken into custody by the police. Manohar alleged that while the victim was brought to Vikas Soudha to inspect the crime scene, the Congress was prevented from performing the purification ritual. “BJP is being allowed to protest, but we are not being allowed to purify Vikas Soudha,” he said.

Earlier, the Karnataka government had ordered an SIT inquiry against Munirathna. He was earlier detained on charges of threatening a contractor and violating the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Later, a female social worker lodged a rape complaint against Munirathna at Kaggalipura police station in Ramanagara district. According to the complaint, the victim was taken by Munirathna to a warehouse owned by him in Matyalnagar, where she was allegedly raped.

The woman also alleged that the incident was video recorded and Munirathna threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter. The victim claimed that Munirathna forced her to set several honey traps. In her complaint, the woman said, “The BJP MLA forced me to set a honey trap. They got this done by threatening to kill me.”

The woman accused six of Naidu's associates, including his gunman, of blackmailing and threatening her by making obscene videos. She also claimed that Naidu used her to honey trap the husband of a former councilor. The case is now under SIT, and investigation is ongoing. Despite Munirathna's denial of the allegations, the seriousness of the allegations has caused a political and social stir.
