Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd Test: The second match being played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the Galle Stadium seems to be completely in the control of the host team. With New Zealand all out for 88 runs, Sri Lanka got a lead of 514 runs in the first innings. This is the second time that the team has got a lead of more than 500 runs in the first innings. Earlier in 2006, the team had achieved a huge lead of 587 runs against South Africa. England holds the record for taking the lead of most runs in the first innings of a Test. It had achieved a lead of 702 runs in the first innings against Australia in 1938.

Sri Lanka scored like a mountain in the first innings

Earlier, the Sri Lankan team scored 602 runs in the first innings on the basis of Kamindu Mendis' unbeaten inning of 186 runs. Not only Kamindu but Dinesh Chandimal and Kushal Mendis also deflated New Zealand by playing century innings. Glenn Phillips took three wickets for 141 runs for the Kiwi team. Apart from him, captain Tim Southee got one wicket.
